“Rescuing Healthcare – A Unique Approach to Occupational Health and Primary Care”
This program focused on the need to provide services to uninsured members of Rescue personnel of Hamilton Township. Small businesses often do not make enough profit to provide healthcare insurance to their employees. Steve recognized the need and opened a Wellness Center Clinic for these employees and their families. He was able to obtain donated equipment and supplies, generic medications were stocked and a $4.00 prescription program was utilized. There was no charge for the Wellness Center users. Visits to the Wellness Center increased 400% between 2008 and 2010 and there is a projected 40% growth for 2011. Sick time decreased due to early intervention, treatment and accessibility.

“Hypertension in the Workplace: Strategies to Increase Adherence to National Guidelines”
As a Manager in the Medical Clinic at Pitney Bowes, Pat’s goal was to insure that treatment for Pitney Bowes employees with diagnosed hypertension meet the guidelines from the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Pressure. Data collection and analysis were performed by the staff. A template for hypertension management was created and staff education and training took place. Patients were assessed annually for major cardiovascular risk factors such as obesity, physical activity, and tobacco use. Counseling and programs were offered to address these risk factors and medication compliance was assessed.
